StoryBook Parade

We had such fun at the StoryBook Parade!

Our principal, Mrs. Lindsay, was Snow White and the children were shouting to her - "A princess! A princess!" I'm sure it made her day!
The kindergarten team dressed as the characters from Hey Diddle Diddle - I was the big silvery moon!
My homemade costume was wonderful except for the limited range of movement it provided and the fact that it dropped glitter everywhere! The kids were waiting for the cow to try and leap over me... : )

Thank you to all of the families who participated and made this year's Storybook Parade an event to remember!

Recess Photos

I love to capture sweet moments of the kids being little... I hope you enjoy a few of the photos I snapped at our afternoon recess the other day. There will be many more to come!

A Visit From Nurse Bates!

My mom, who is a registered nurse here in The Woodlands, came to visit with our classes about her job and how she helps people in our community. We were so eager to meet her and so impressed that she and I have the same last name! (I think the kids were also baffled that I, a grown-up teacher, had a MOM!)

Nurse Bates showed us some of the tools she uses to take care of people who are sick and she talked about how she became a nurse. The students were particularly interested in her stethescope and safety scissors! She did a fantastic job teaching us about ways to stay healthy, including washing our hands, eating healthy foods, and exercising.
One lucky volunteer even got to listen to a heartbeat like a real nurse!

Thank you, Nurse Bates, for a wonderful visit to our classroom!

A Visit from Officer Mac!

We were fortunate to have a visit from our CISD police officer, Officer Mac! He read our students a silly story called Officer Buckle and Gloria and showed us some of the tools he uses to keep people in the community safe.

Officer Mac has had experience as a police officer, an EMT, and a firefighter! He shared important safety tips about how kids can stay safe. He showed the students his safety vest and reminded them to wear reflective clothing if they are walking or biking after dark. He also shared how important it is to wear a helmet and follow the rules of the trails.

Officer Mac showed us his handcuffs as well as his metal detector.

Officer Mac taught us to stay away from strangers and not to touch guns if we see them. He taught us how to stay safe in case of a fire and stop, drop, and roll. Thank you for all of your valuable lessons, Officer Mac! Thanks for keeping our community and our school safe!

Community Helpers

This week our class learned about Community Helpers and we began thinking about the kinds of careers WE could have someday. I shared with the students that when I was in kindergarten I either wanted to be a gymnast, an illustrator, or a teacher. Some things were meant to be! : )

We brainstormed ideas of careers that we could have and created a thinking map:

Each child drew a picture of their future job and labeled it with words. We later used these cards to graph our future careers. Please visit our graph in the hallway outside our door to see all of the jobs we want to have someday!

We will have a very diverse and successful bunch of workers someday!
We will have a secret agent...

a cupcake baker...
a dentist...
a dirt bike fixer...
and an astronaut!
