Potions Day!

Every year Galatas hosts an all-school science day. This year's theme was Potions! Kindergarten heard a wonderful presentation about chemical reactions from a science guy. The kids were mesmerized by his demonstrations with dry ice, black lights and a blow torch.

In the afternoon, we rotated through each kindergarten classroom to a different "potions" activity. In K5, we made oobleck from glue, borax, and water. Gooey!

We read Strega Nona and made our own overflowing pasta pot, inspired by the story.

We mixed colors of cornstarch slime together to make a "rainbow potion".

Perhaps our favorite activity was the color changing "potions" we made outside. The kids used colored Koolaid and fizzy Koolaid tablets to make their water change colors. Amazing!

Here's K5!
Thanks to all of our parent volunteers who helped make this special day a success!

Centers

Our favorite time of day is centers! The kids get to choose an activity each afternoon - as they play, the kids are developing fine motor skills, practicing problems solving and conflict resolution skills, and working cooperatively with peers.
Our most popular centers are:

Stamping
Rice Table

Home Center
More photos to come of some of our other favorite centers!

Fire Truck Visit

We were lucky to have a visit from the fire fighters from the local Woodlands Fire Department. The kids loved getting a tour of the truck and learning about the tools the fire fighters use to help keep people safe from fires.

Our kids even got to tour the inside of the truck! Wow!
